SCOG Secretary or phone 07031 743276 Stamford is a market town in the county of Lincolnshire, England, and it is a wonderful town to live in or to visit. It has been declared the "finest stone Georgian town in England" and has been
used as a location for many films and television series, including the
recent "Pride and Prejudice" film and the "Middlemarch" series. Stamford in Victorian times was surrounded by orchards and nurseries growing apple
and other fruit trees. Over 40 apple varieties were bred here,
but with the passing of time many of these have been lost. With
the development of the town and the change in farming practices, most
of the old orchards have now disappeared, and although some remnants are
still visible in the gardens of newly built houses we have an aim to create a New Orchard for all residents to enjoy. Check out our gallery - and see what we were doing in the early years!
