The Apple Day 2005 event was a huge success, with hundreds of people visiting and joining in the fun.

All the activities took place at Stamford Town Hall..

The main attraction in this year was a display of over 150 different apple varieties, apple tastings, speakers on a range of apple related topics, a display of lots of apple products which can be won in a raffle, fun and games such as apple bobbing and a longest peel competition. An apple identification will be running all day with experts on-hand to identify apples and provide help and advice on apple problems.

Profits from the day are being used to help set up a new orchard in Stamford with an aim to conserve Stamford’s apple heritage.

There was a display featuring the new Community Orchard plans and new Friends and Volunteers signed up for the project.

Chairman Richard Keeble commented "2004's event proved there is a huge interest in apples and orchards in and around the town. Many people have apple trees but don’t know what they are nor how to look after them - by bringing their apples to Apple Day we can tell them the variety and provide advice on how to get the best from their fruit. By raising people’s awareness of apples we hope to find and preserve the 40 varieties that come from Stamford, and to pass this interest and heritage onto the next generation.
