Our sixth SCOG Apple Day when taste, nutrition and history were all brought to life was held in the Stamford Arts Centre on Saturday 3rd October 2009.
To our Sponsors we give you a big thank you!
The day was held to raise awareness about the varieties of apples which exist, many originating in Stamford and to publicise knowledge of the local apple orchards that are part of our heritage but which are being lost to developments.
Apple tasting of many locally grown apples was popular as were the sale of bags of different variety of apples.
Many residents brought apples for the experts from the East of England Apple and Orchards Project team to identify and our own SCOG gurus were on hand to provide advice and to answer any apple questions.
Both New College Stamford and the local Country Market provided a delicious range of apple produce.
Other stalls included Slowfood, Apple Juice, Embroiderers Guild, Friends of the Earth, Cider making, Bees, Stamford Nature Watch and Rivercare.A successful tombola stall raised much needed funds for SCOG.
Apple bobbing proved a big hit with the Children and for adults a test your knowledge Quiz with alphabet answers was provided.
Our Apple Day was also the culmination of a school poetry competition where pupils had been asked to write a poem about apples and orchards.
Our SCOG Chairman presented the winners with their prizes.
Thank you to all those who helped out on the day it was a great success!
